How to Set a Fiberglass Shower/Tub

When installing a fiberglass shower pan or tub, you must first turn off the water supply and remove the old pan. The main problem when setting the new pan is accommodating the drain pipe. Some shower pans already have indents in the base to allow the fitting of the drain pipe. You must cut a semi-circular hole in the bottom of the tray if the hole is not precut. Clean around the area where the shower pan will be placed. Remove any old sealant and ensure the floor is free of objects that may cause the pan to sit unevenly.

Measure the width and height of the drain pipe. You must cut a semi-circular hole in the base of the shower tub to allow the tub to fit over the pipe.

Cut the hole in the shower tub with a coping saw. Seat the shower tub over the pipe to check the fit. Do not connect the waste pipe to the shower tub drainage connection yet.

Level the shower tub. The shower tub has adjustable feet under each corner. Adjust the feet and use the spirit level to ensure the tub sits level on all sides. This may take several attempts as you lift the tray and readjust the feet.

Connect the waste pipe. Once the shower tub is level, the waste can be connected to the drainage connector. Re-check that the tub is still level.

Insert the sealant into the sealant gun and seal around the shower tub's top edge where it meets the wall. Leave the sealant to dry for at least four hours.

Turn the shower on and test the pipes and shower tub for leaks once the sealant is dry.
