How to Set Up a 360 Wireless Adapter

In 2002, Microsoft launched Xbox Live for the first time, enabling Xbox gamers to play competitively with others online. This service continued with the launch of the Xbox 360. Before you can connect to the Internet, however, you must have a wireless adapter that can read the Internet signal and connect you to Xbox Live. Xbox 360 consoles manufactured before June 2010 require that you first install the official Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter.

Verify that your console requires a wireless adapter. Xbox 360 consoles released after June 2010 come with an internal wireless adapter, eliminating the need for additional hardware. Newer consoles come with jagged designs on the sides and are completely black, but older consoles can be black or white and are completely smooth all around.

Locate the tiny plastic tabs on the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter. They are on either short side of the adapter. Slide these tabs into the corresponding slots, located on the back of your console.

Insert the USB cable from the wireless adapter into the USB port, just below the adapter.

Verify the connection is secure and proper. When properly inserted, the wireless adapter shows a solid green light.
