How to Set Up Exchange at Home

Microsoft Exchange server is a client-side server that offers features such as email, calendaring and task management. You can utilize it to manage remote and Web users who wish to access their email applications as well. Exchange server also offers anti-spam capabilities, antivirus features, encryption, data replication and scalability. In addition, you can use your Exchange server for instant messaging, Web meetings and appointment setting. If you wish to set up Exchange at home, this will require a few steps.

  Place the Exchange server installation CD into the server you wish to set up as your Exchange server. Allow your server to recognize the software. The setup wizard should pop up. In the event it doesn't, locate the CD and click "Setup.exe."

  Install any components that meet your requirements for .Net Framework 2.0, Microsoft Management Console, Microsoft Command Shell, Microsoft Exchange and Critical Updates.

  Click Step 4 on the "Exchange" page of the setup wizard to install Exchange. Select "Yes" to enable "Error Reporting" when prompted.

  Select between "Typical" or "Custom" server installation. If you select "Custom," you can modify the settings to your specifications. Enter the client that will be running Outlook through your Exchange server.

  Click "Install" if you have configured all the settings you will need. Allow the installation to complete. Install any critical updates after the installation has completed. Restart your server.
