How to Start Up a Computer When You Forgot the Password in Windows XP Media Edition

If you have forgotten the administrator's password for your Microsoft Windows XP operating system, you may not be able to log on and use the computer. Even if you have forgotten the password, you can still manage to log on to the computer as long as you have a password reset disk. Using the password reset disk to log on to the computer takes only a few minutes and does not require any specific Windows XP expertise.

      Press the power button to turn on your computer.

      Click the user name you want to use when the log-on screen appears and press "Enter." An error message appears.

      Click "Use your password reset disk." The password reset wizard will start.

      Click "Next."

      Insert the password reset disc into the computer's CD drive. Click "Next."

      Type a new password into the "Type a new password" box.

      Type the password again into the "Type the password again to confirm" box.

      Type a password hint into the "Type a new password hint" box.

      Click "Next."

      Click "Finish."
