How to Take the Headlamps Out of a 2002 F-350

The Ford F-350's headlamps have three basic parts: the headlamp assembly, the retainer ring, and the bulb. There are a number of reasons headlamps might need to be removed. They might need cleaning, they might have burned out, or the headlight assembly might need to replaced. According to the Ford F-350 owner's manual, removing a headlight is a relatively simple procedure that can be done with basic tools.
  • Bulb Removal

    • 1

Sit in the cab of the F-350. Make sure that the headlamp switch on the steering column is turned to the off position, then lift the hood release inside the cab.

    • 2

Open the hood. Locate the connection plug which runs between the light and the wiring harness. Pull it lose from the bulb. To remove the plug without damaging it, pull it straight back, horizontally, from the bulb.

    • 3

Rotate the retaining ring around the base of the bulb counterclockwise until it comes free from the bulb. Retain the ring to secure the new bulb when it is installed.

    • 4

Pull the bulb straight out the rear of the headlamp assembly.

    Headlamp Assembly Removal

    • 1

Locate and remove the two screws that affix the parking light to the frame, using a Phillips head screwdriver.

    • 2

Disconnect the wiring plug from the rear of the parking light, then pull the assembly away from the truck.

    • 3

Remove the bolts connecting the headlight bezel, which holds the headlight assembly in place, using a wrench or a ratchet and socket set. There are a total of four bolts holding it in place. Set the bezel aside until reassembly.

    • 4

Remove the four screws in the headlamp assembly retaining ring using the Phillip head screwdriver. Remove the retaining ring and set it aside until reassembly.

    • 5

Pull the headlight assembly out of the front of the truck.
