Watch the screen at startup. Twenty hours before the lamp is expected to expire, a warning message will appear on the screen reading "Change Lamp." A red LED will also flash. The lamp is a high-pressure, mercury glass lamp that can rupture with age, so the manufacturer is keen to get you to replace the lamp before it potentially breaks and spills its hazardous material.

Look for unusual dimming of the picture. Unusual dimming indicates a failing bulb.
