How to Text on TracFones

TracFone mobile phones offer a no-contract wireless service option -- often referred to as prepaid. In addition to making and receiving phone calls on your device, you can also communicate through text messaging. Text messages allow you to send and receive a short, 160-character or fewer messages to other cell phone users. Some TracFone service plans include text messages, while others will cause minutes to be deducted from your balance. Check with TracFone customer service if you're unsure of your specific plan allowances.

  Power your phone on and ensure you are in an area with adequate network coverage.

  Press "Menu" to open the main menu. Scroll to and select "Messages," then choose "Create New Message."

  Type your message in the "Message" field. Press "Send To."

  Select an entry from your address book or use the keypad to type in the recipient's telephone number. Press "Send" to send your message.
