How to Tighten a Loose Beach Chair

Most beach chairs consist of lightweight material such as wood or aluminum and are able to fold up for easy mobility and storage in the back of a car. However, years of folding and unfolding the same beach chair can make it loose and rickety. There's an easy fix that can return your beach chair to its original state.

Unfold the chair and turn it on its side. Most beach chairs consist of an upper frame and a lower frame connected by bolts or screws. Determine if small metal bolts or metal screws are holding the two pieces of the chair together.

    • 2

Select a small adjustable wrench if bolts are holding the chair together. If screws are holding the chair together, select a flathead screwdriver or a Philips head screwdriver, depending on the type of screws.

    • 3

Push the sides of the upper and lower frame closer together without folding the chair up. This position is how tight the chair should ideally be. Insert your screwdriver into the screws on the right side or wrap your wrench around the bolts on the right side. Turn your wrench or screwdriver to the right. Repeat with the screws or bolts on the left side.

Fold and unfold your chair. It should be slightly harder to fold than it was before. Pick up the chair with one hand and shake it gently. The frame shouldn't rattle.

If the chair still rattles, continue to tighten the screw or bolt.
