How to Turn Off the Oil Change Warning in a Honda Odyssey

There was a time when automobile manufacturers gave a blanket recommendation that owners change the oil in their vehicles every 3,000 miles, regardless of driving habits or conditions. In 2010, vehicles have computer systems that monitor the engine and indicate when the oil needs to be changed. The Honda Odyssey is equipped with a "Maintenance Minder Indicator" that alerts drivers when it's time to change the oil. When you change your oil, you will need to reset the system so it can begin a new monitoring cycle.

  Turn the ignition to "On." Press the "Select/Reset" knob on the instrument panel until you see "Oil Life" displayed at the bottom of the speedometer. The "Select/Reset" knob is located to the right of the display. The oil-life readout shows the percentage of the remaining life of the oil. If you see anything other than "100%," the system has not been reset. When the percentage drops to 15%, the "Maintenance Minder Indicator" at the bottom of the tachometer will light up.

  Press and hold the "Select/Reset" knob for approximately 10 seconds, or until you see the oil-life display blink. Release the knob.

  Press the knob again for about five seconds, or until you see the oil-life indicator return to 100%. Release the knob.

  Turn the ignition off and wait a few seconds. Turn it back on and press the "Select/Reset" knob to scroll to the oil-life indicator. Make sure that it reads 100% and that all maintenance codes have disappeared. If not, perform the reset procedure again.
