How to Unzip Winzip Files With Other Software

Developed by Corel, WinZip is one of the world's most widely used archive creation and compression tools. The Windows-based software allows you to bring together one or more files or folders in a single, compressed file known as an archive. By default, WinZip saves archives in ZIP format. If you do not want to use WinZip to open these types of files, use Windows' built-in archiving utility or third-party applications such as WinRAR or 7-Zip to complete the task.
  • Using Windows

    • 1

Navigate to the folder containing the ZIP archive you want to open.

    • 2

Right-click the file's icon and select "Extract All."

    • 3

Click the "Browse" button, select the folder where you want the extracted files placed and then click "OK."

    • 4

Click "Extract" to unzip the file's contents to the selected folder.

    Using WinRAR

    • 1

      Open the WinRAR application.

    • 2

Click "File" in the top menu bar and select "Open archive." Locate the ZIP file in the resulting window and select it by double-clicking its icon.

    • 3

      Click the "Extract To" button.

    • 4

Select the folder where you want the extracted files placed and specify your extraction preferences (e.g., "Extract and replace files").

    • 5

Click "OK" to unzip the file's contents to the selected folder.

    Using 7-Zip

    • 1

      Open the 7-Zip application.

    • 2

Use the main program window to navigate to the folder containing the ZIP file you want to open. Select the file by double-clicking its icon.

    • 3

      Click the "Extract" button.

    • 4

Click the "..." button, select the folder where you want the extracted files placed and then click "OK."

    • 5

Click "OK" again to unzip the file's contents to the selected folder.
