How to Update a BIOS From Bootup

If you want to update your computer's BIOS from the machine's bootup process, you're going to have to create something called a "BIOS Update Disk." This may sound complicated, but as long as you have access to a floppy disk or CD-ROM, it can be completed in a few minutes. A BIOS Update Disk is bootable, which means that once placed in your drive your computer will launch your BIOS update utility automatically during a boot or reboot.

Download your BIOS update file. The steps you will use to do this depend heavily on which company actually manufactured your BIOS. Typically, BIOS update files are available for free on the manufacturer's website. Go to your BIOS manufacturer's website, search for your BIOS by model number and click "Download" to download the latest update file.

Drag the BIOS update file into the floppy disk window to create your BIOS update disk. If you're using a CD, double-click on the icon for your CD burner. Drag the BIOS update file into the CD burner window and click the "Burn to Disc" toolbar button to burn the file to the disc.
