How to Update Windows Mobile 5 on an XV6700

Verizon's firmware update for its XV6700 equips the PDA's Windows Mobile OS (Operating Systems) with more features while patching up known issues with the OS. The update includes advanced security measures, voice dialing and push email, among many other system software upgrades. And while Verizon no longer supports the dated XV6700, you can still get a hold of this vital update for your device.

  Reset your XV6700--use the stylus to poke the reset button at the bottom of the phone.

  Connect your XV6700 to your computer via USB cable and allow the phone to sync up with ActiveSync on your computer--if you don't already have ActiveSync, install it ahead of connecting your 6700 to your computer (see Resources).

  Download a free copy of the Verizon Windows Mobile update for your phone (see References). Tap on the signal icon at the top of your XV6700's screen, and then select the "Turn on flight mode" option when the "Phone" balloon appears.

  Run the installer--allow it to run without interruption. Reset your phone again after the update has finished installing to your device.
