How to Upgrade an Inspiron 1000

The Dell Inspiron 1000 is a Windows-based laptop that comes with 256 MB of RAM (Random Access Memory). This amount of memory is sufficient if you are surfing the Web or using your computer for light loads. However, if you would like to run multiple programs on your system or you download a lot of music, upgrade the RAM to get the most performance out of your computer. Adding 1 or 2 gigs of RAM can double or triple your download and processing speeds.

  Shut the computer down and remove the power cord and battery from the side and bottom of the computer.

  Turn the Inspiron 1000 upside down and then unscrew the memory cover from the upper left-hand corner of the laptop's bottom. Remove the memory cover from the laptop's casing.

  Spread the clips on the sides of the RAM chip and remove the RAM chip from the computer. Put your new RAM into the RAM slot and replace the computer's memory cover.

  Replace the power cord and the battery.

  Power the computer on.
