How to Upgrade the Memory in a Thinkpad 600X

The IBM ThinkPad 600X series came with 64 megabytes of random access memory, or RAM. The laptop can handle a maximum of 512MB of RAM. If you find that your laptop is slow or unresponsive, it may be time to install more memory in the device. This operation takes about 10 minutes and is as simple as installing a new battery in an electronic device.

  Shut down your laptop. Unplug all of the cords and cables.

  Flip the laptop over and remove the battery. Remove the screw that is holding the memory compartment lid on the laptop. The memory compartment is in the lower left corner of your desktop.

  Separate the clips on either side of the existing memory module. The module will release. Slide it out of the slot.

  Match the notch on the new memory module with the knob in the slot. Slide the module in the slot at a 25-degree angle. Press down on the new module so it lays flat in the compartment.

  Put the lid back on and secure it with the screw. Put the battery back in the laptop. Plug in the cables and cords and turn on the laptop.
