Back Up Your Current Device
- 1
Perform a "Hotsync." Plug the cable that came with your current Palm into your device and attach it to your computer. Make sure your Palm device is turned on.
- 2
Go to the "Start" button on your computer. Select "All programs," then select "Palm or Handspring," then select "Hotsync manager."
- 3
Follow the on-screen instruction to perform a "Hotsync," which will backup your current Palm device.
- 4
Go to "My Computer" and enter the folder named "Program files." Locate your Palm folder. Select your current device's "User Name" folder. Write down the user name on a piece of paper.
- 5
In the "User Name" folder, locate the folder named "Backup." Right-click this folder and select "Rename." Rename the folder. What you rename it is up to you.
Upgrade to Your Tungsten E
- 1
Return to your computer desktop screen. Put in the compact disc that came with your new Palm Tungsten E Device. Connect your Tungsten E to your computer with the cable that came with it. It will usually be a USB cable. One end will plug into your Palm device and the other end will plug into a USB port on your computer. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the contents of the CD.
- 2
Type in the user name that you wrote down from the "User Name" folder, if you are asked for a user name. Installing the same user name to your new Tungsten E will transfer all of your PIM data, also known as "personal information management" data. This is the data that is associated with your calendar, contacts and other organizational applications.
- 3
Follow the on-screen instructions to perform the "Hotsync" that is required during the installation process.
- 4
Return to the old backup folder that you previously renamed. Enter that folder to reinstall any third-party applications. Pick one application. Double-click the icon, confirm that you wish to install, and then perform a "Hotsync." You will need to repeat this for each application since you can only install them individually.
