How to Use a Decoraing Bag Without a Coupler

Decorating bags are triangular plastic bags bakers fill with frosting to create flowers, stars, leaves and other shapes on baked goods. A coupler is a piece that includes a decorating tip and a screw on a ring that allows a baker to employ multiple decorating tips without using a new bag. Using a decorating bag without a coupler is easy. If you want different tip effects, however, you will need to use multiple decorating bags.

Snip off the top corner of a decorating bag. Insert a decorating tip into the bag so the tip pokes out through the small opening.

    • 2

Fill the decorating bag with the frosting or icing. Make sure there is plenty to provide a full, strong stream from the tip.

    • 3

Push the frosting toward the end where the tip is as you use your other hand to direct the tip.

    • 4

Squeeze the frosting through the bag and out of the decorating tip to decorate your baked goods.
