How to Use the Garmin Streetpilot C340

The Garmin Streetpilot C340, a navigation device for your car, is a global positioning system (GPS) receiver. It receives signals from United States GPS satellites to triangulate its exact location. Signals from three satellites are necessary to determine your exact latitude and longitude. A fourth satellite signal is necessary to find your altitude. The Garmin Streetpilot overlays the GPS information on the maps loaded in its memory to calculate routes to your destination. The C340 gives you detailed directions to your destination and guides you with voice prompts using actual street names and a highlighted route on the map screen.

Enter a Destination By Name

  Tap "Where To?" The "Where To?" soft key is found on the main menu page. It has an icon that looks like a magnifying glass.

  Press "Spell Name." A pop-up keyboard will appear on screen.

  Type in the name on the keyboard. Press the green "Done" key located on the bottom left corner of the keyboard.

  Tap the destination of your choice from the list of possible matches that pops up.

  Press the green "Go" button. Follow the voice prompts and highlight the map route to your destination.

Enter a Points-of-Interest Destination

  Press "Where To?" on the main menu page.

  Tap a category icon. The categories are "Address," "Food," "Lodging," "My Location," "Fuel" and "Spell Name." For instance, choose "Lodging" to find a nearby hotel.

  Press a location name from the list of possible choices that pops up. The name of the establishment and the distance from your current location will be shown in the list.

  Tap the green "Go" button and follow the route and voice prompts to your destination.

Set a Home Location While At Home

  Tap "Where To?" on the main menu page.

  Press "My Locations" found in the bottom right corner. The icon pictures a red heart.

  Tap "Set Home" found at the bottom of the screen, in the center.

  Tap "Yes, Use my current location." If you are not at home, you will need to type in your address information.
