How to Waterproof a Laundry Room Floor

A washing machine can overflow and cause costly water damage to your laundry room and even other areas of your home. One way to minimize potential damage is to invest in waterproofing for your laundry room floor. A waterproofed floor prevents any water spilled by the washing machine from being absorbed into the flooring. Over time, a waterproofed floor will pay for itself in avoided repairs.

  Apply a thin, even coat of waterproofing membrane to the floor's surface, using with your paintbrush or roller.

  Let the membrane dry for 12 hours.

  Apply a second coat. Allow it to dry for 12 hours.

  Apply a layer of grout across all corners of the room, using the grout float. After a minute has passed, wipe down the surface with a sponge to remove any excess grout.

  Let the grout cure for two days.

  Apply two new coats of waterproof membrane. Wait 12 hours between the first and second coats.
