How to Wire an External DSL Splitter

An external DSL line splitter is a device that allows you to connect two devices (like modems) to the same phone line in your home. DSL Internet connections use your regular telephone line to establish a connection with the network. This splitter will hook up to your phone jack and allow you to connect either two different DSL modems, or even a DSL modem and a regular home telephone should you so choose.

Plug the phone cord that runs off of your external DSL splitter into a phone jack in your home. The phone cord that runs off of the splitter has a standard plastic clip on the end and pushes directly into the phone jack input.

Connect one of your two phone cords to one of two two inputs on the front of the external DSL splitter. Connect the other end to your DSL modem. One of the two inputs on your DSL splitter will be connected to your primary DSL modem. The two devices are now connected.

Connect the second of your two phone cords to the second input on the front of your external DSL splitter. Connect the other end to the second device that you want to share the phone jack with. This can be a second DSL modem, a standard wired home telephone or some other device that may need to use the phone jack. Your second device is now connected to the splitter, and the splitter is now wired successfully.
