How to Wire a Kenwood KRC-603

Kenwood's KRC-603 in-dash receiver offers a built-in cassette tape player and a control interface for an optional compact disk changer. The unit also sports two RCA inputs on the back of the unit, allowing you to connect an MP3 player or other audio device with an RCA adapter. With basic soldering skills and the instructions below, wiring the KRC-603 is a snap.
    • 1

Disconnect the negative lead from your vehicle's battery to prevent short circuiting.

    • 2

Solder the speaker wire pairs coming out of the wiring harness to the corresponding speaker wires in the vehicle: white and white/black to the front left speaker, gray and gray/black to the front right speaker, green and green/black to the rear left speaker and purple and purple/black to the rear right speaker. In each of these connections, the solid colored wire should be soldered to the positive terminal, and the mixed wire should be soldered to the negative terminal. Cover all connections with heat shrink tubing.

    • 3

Connect the black wire to ground, either by using a ground wire already installed in the vehicle or by attaching it to the vehicle's chassis.

    • 4

Solder the yellow wire from the power harness into a terminal that continuously receives power whether the vehicle is on or off. Cover this connection with heat shrink tubing.

    • 5

Solder the red wire into a terminal that is controlled by the vehicle's ignition. Cover this connection with heat shrink tubing.

    • 6

Connect the blue and white paired wires to the control terminal of the vehicle's amplifier or automatic antenna. If the vehicle does not have an amplifier or antenna, do not let the wire come out from the connection tab.

    • 7

Plug the vehicle's antenna cable into the antenna input on the back of the unit. You can also connect two auxiliary audio devices via the two RCA inputs on the back of the unit. Connect a Kenwood disc changer to the disc changer input if available. Connect the wiring harness to the wiring harness port.

Mount the unit in the dashboard and reconnect your vehicle's battery. Turn your vehicle on and verify that the unit is functional.
