Ideal Shape & Size for a Military Backpack

Military backpacks consist of water-resistant materials, subsections to find everything you need, and holds about three days worth of supplies. When choosing the correct one for you, consider the size, shape and price.
  • Size

    • According to Blackhawk.com and Armygearonline.com, the ideal size for your military backpack is about 17 to 18 inches in height, 10 to 14 inches in width, and 6 to 7 inches in depth. This pack will give you the stability necessary for your active days while not restricting your movements.

    Shape

    • Military backpacks generally comes in three shapes: the Alice typically has one large compartment and three equal smaller sections. The MOLLE (modular lightweight load-carrying equipment) is shaped like a standard camping pack with two compartments (of different sizes) outside of the main body. The ILBE (improved load-bearing equipment) pack is the latest design and features one extra-large section.

    Price

    • A military backpack is not something to skimp on and ranges from $80 to well over $200, depending on the extras you choose, such as compartments, padding, accessory straps and framing. Features such as clear map holder and quick-release gadgets are also available for a price. For example, the simple MOLLE pack with two outside compartments sells for $130.
