Ideas for Doula Business Cards

The business card is a handshake with some vital details. As a doula, your business card needs to look and feel different from other cards in a person's wallet. Doulas offer a warm, selfless, caring service for moms-to-be and parents with a newborn child. With a doula service business -- also called postpartum care service or a birth doula -- you will do whatever it takes to aid parents in caring for their infant, from coaching them through labor to helping the new mom with breast-feeding to babysitting. Because the service is so tender and personal, making a business card that conveys your sensitive personality and attention to detail will draw attention and calls.

    Logo

    • If you are not a designer by trade or hobby, it is a good idea to hire a professional designer to create your business card logo. A doula logo on a business card needs to convey a soothing message. A flower, an illustration of a newborn and its mother, or a geometric shape that conveys peace and joy, like a dove-like image are all logos that can help you get attention. Note that designers spend weeks, sometimes months, coming up with an ideal logo for an individual or business. If you are in a rush you can also try to design an image which you think represents your business ethic and character.

    Color Scheme

    • The business card color is often the first thing that a reader notices and the reason they pick up a card. For a doula service, selecting a calming color that attracts attention will help your business. Pale blues, turquoise, peach, pink and light greens are soothing, touching colors. Black, navy blue, red, neon colors and clashing colors will dissuade or distract potential clients because of their foreboding shades. You can fill the whole card with a solid color or go with two tones. For instance, print a dark brown top border and fill the rest of the card in blue. Printing your name in black will ensure easy reading.

    Information

    • Standard size business cards have limited space, usually 3.5 inches wide by 2 inches tall. When choosing what information to include on your business card, think of space and the most vital facts. Your name, the name of your company, your logo, cell phone number and e-mail address are all essential. If you have space left on the card, adding your physical address, website address and home phone number are fine.

    Simple Design

    • For a doula business, having an image of a baby on the card is a good idea. However, the simpler the design, the better. Leaving the back blank is a safe idea and not a waste of space. Clients can take notes on your service there. However, printing "appointment time" and "date" and leaving lines there may encourage potential clients to set a time to meet with you.
