Ideas for Hand Making Cards

  • Add Texture

    • Adding texture to your card is one way to make it less ordinary. For example, add bits of fabric such as velvet, silk or lace in vivid, rich colors. Add decorative elements like sequins, beads, button or glitter to give the card a look of glamor.

    Use Rubber Stamps

    • Don't underestimate the power of rubber stamps. Rubber stamps come in a variety of letters and fonts, images and designs so that even if you're a terrible artist or have awful handwriting, you can still create handmade cards that look amazing. Select a larger rubber stamp design or picture for the main image on the front of your card. Use an ink pad in whatever color you like; consider using alternative colors like silver, copper or gold. Once the rubber stamps create clear pictures for the front of your card you can decorate the card as you see fit.

    Forget Traditional Adhesive

    • You don't have to rely on traditional types of adhesives like glue or tape to create unforgettable homemade cards. Metal pins like brads work just fine, as do small, decorative magnets. If you have the time and energy, consider hand sewing design elements onto the front of the card for an old fashioned, high quality effect. To truly give a period effect to your cards, close the envelopes with a wax seal.
