Casio's "Triple 10" design concept gave the first G-Shock watch a 10-year battery life, 10-meter free-fall endurance and 10-bar water resistance. The G-Shock's use of cushioning material, hollow-structured casing and all-directional protective covering have built a foundation for further advancement and a central role in Casio's product line.

Following a sales boom in the 1990s, the G-Shock watch began adopting new sensors, new materials for increased durability and solar-powered radio technology. In 2010, the G-Shock watch features a rechargeable battery that converts solar light from panels on the face of the watch into energy. G-Shock watches provide daily self-adjusted time based on American Standard Time information transmitted via radio waves from Fort Collins, Colorado.
