Instructions for a 3.1 IR EchoStar 123271 Remote

Dish Network service allows the user to connect to high-definition programming through a satellite dish and a cable box that will be installed by a professional technician. Depending on the model of this cable box, it could come with a 3.1 IR EchoStar universal remote. This remote will not only control the cable box but can also be programmed to operate other devices that you have connected to your home entertainment system. The EchoStar remote can be programmed by following the instructions in just a few minutes of free time.
    • 1

Turn on the device you want to program into your EchoStar universal remote by using the "Power" button on the original remote or on the device itself. Keep other devices turned off during this time.

    • 2

Locate the list of programming codes for your device. These codes can be found in the user's manual for your EchoStar remote or by searching Dish Network's support website. Look for the codes by device type and the manufacturer, not the model, of the equipment you are attempting to program. Make note of all the codes that appear for your device, as you may have to try several codes before you gain full functionality of the remote.

    • 3

Hold down the appropriate mode button for the type of device you are programming for three seconds. Let go of the button when all mode buttons light up. The mode you are currently programming will start to flash and the others will turn off. You now have 30 seconds to enter in a code before programming mode will be turned off.

    • 4

Use the number pad in the center of the remote to type in the first code on the list for your device. Do not hold any number down and pause briefly between each one. Press the "#" button when finished. If the code was valid, the mode button will blink three times and turn off.

    • 5

Press the "Power" button on the remote. If the device turns off, turn it back on and test out all of the buttons you intend to use with the device. If the equipment does not respond fully, repeat the process using the next code on the list until you find one that works to your expectations.
