iPad Durability

You have been drooling over getting that shiny new iPad. It seems like it would be such a cool gadget to have, but what if you break it? If you drop it once, will it fall to pieces?
  • Dropping

    • It appears the iPad does not hold up well to drops. After dropping the screen from a couple of feet on a carpeted surface, the screen can begin to show some damage, such as pixelation. Also, if you drop it on concrete, it doesn't hold up well, either. If you have butterfingers, you might want to get some insurance on it.

    Scratching

    • The staff at PCWorld actually took a nail to the iPad screen during a durability test. After pressing hard and attempting to scratch the screen with the nail, they saw absolutely no damage on the screen.

    Spills

    • If you can, make sure that you keep those drinks away from the iPad. A spill of coffee or water on the screen can damage the screen and make it look patchy, if it still works at all after the spill.
