Jansport has been manufacturing quality outdoor gear since 1967. Backpacking through deep forests, along cascading streams and crystal blue lakes captures the heart of many an outdoor enthusiast. Comfort, reliability and quality are all factors to consider before purchasing a backpack. Jansport's D2, an aluminum-frame backpack is brand new, shipping to stores this winter. The vintage-design external-frame pack is making a comeback. As of November 2010, the pack will sell for around $275 when released.
External Frame
-
The external frame, popularized in the 1960's, is making a comeback. The new Jansport D2 is freestanding, diminishing the need to find a tree or log as support. The frame easily adjusts to fit most adult backpackers. The pack weighs less than six pounds, slightly heavier than most internal-frame packs of the same proportions. External-frame packs allow more ventilation for your back and support heavy loads superbly.
Storage Space
-
The backpack has an enormous storage capacity of 5,200 cubic inches, ideal for a week in the back country. The compartments and square pockets allow for easy accessibility and boast an abundance of space for organizing all your supplies. The compartments and square pockets slide out like drawers, adding to its uniqueness. The pack can be cleaned with a damp cloth as necessary.
Technology
-
Ergonomic padded shoulder straps are curved, allowing for better fit and support of the weight. A foam padded hip-belt adds cushioned support with a breathable mesh lumbar cushion that will keep you dry and comfortable. The pack is based on the company's original model from 1964. Several permanent straps attached to the aluminum frame allow for transporting any additional items on the outside of the pack. Two large, zippered pockets on each side provide easy accessibility for larger items.
