Johnson Outboard Specifications

    • Johnson Motor Company began in 1921. Throughout its history the company produced aircraft engines, compressors for refrigerators and boat motors. Ralph Evinrude and Steve Briggs purchased part of the company in 1935, creating Outboard Marine and Manufacturing Corporation, producing boat motors under the brands Johnson and Evinrude. Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) purchased the Evinrude and Johnson brands in 2001. While BRP continues to manufacture outboard boat motors under the Evinrude brand, it ceased producing Johnson motors after 2008.

    2008 Johnson 9.9 Horsepower Two-stroke

    • BRP manufactured the Johnson 9.9 horsepower two-stroke outboard motor in 2008, calling it the J9.9. The J9.9 featured two cylinders and had a gear ratio of 2.42:1. The motor had a minimum wide open throttle (WOT) rating of 5,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) and a maximum WOT of 6,000 rpm.

    2008 Johnson 15.0 Horsepower Four-stroke
