Laser Bikini Treatment

The bikini line is becoming one of the more popular places to get laser hair removal because hair in this area is curly, coarse and often more difficult to shave and wax. This region is often prone to folliculitis, an infection of the hair follicles, shaving bumps or ingrown hairs. Laser hair removal is a semi-permanent way to remove these troublesome hairs.
  • Preparation

    • It is imperative to avoid tanning several weeks before the procedure. Laser hair removal will discolor tanned skin, making it lighter than the rest of the area. Patients should also avoid self tanning creams and sprays for the same reason. Patients should also not wax, tweeze or thread for four weeks prior to the treatment. While shaving is allowed, it is sometimes recommended some hair show on the day of the procedures.

    Process

    • Laser technicians will take extra care around the bikini area due to the sensitive nature of this region. A nurse or trained technician will perform the procedure. The laser causes controlled damage to hair follicles causing these follicles to stop generating hair. The pain of the procedure is usually minimal. Patients will usually needs somewhere between three to six procedures over the course of three years for best results.

    Post-Removal Treatment

    • Icing after the treatment can minimize the minor discomfort some patients may feel from the laser. Patients can return to most daily activities immediately after the procedure.

    Cost

    • Bikini hair removal treatment varies anywhere between $100 to $1,000 per session. Bikini line treatments are often cheaper than full Brazilian hair removal treatments.

    Considerations

    • The risks to bikini laser hair removal are minimal. Some discoloration may form after the procedures and in few cases, blisters can form. It is important to keep the area out of sunlight for three to six months. Wearing sunscreen is recommended.
