Minnesotans With Disabilities Act

The Minnesotans With Disabilities Act of 2005 was a failed Minnesota state legislative bill. The bill included provisions designed to help Minnesota residents with disabilities advance their place in society.
  • Features

    • According to the Minnesota State Council on Disability, the Minnesotans With Disabilities Act would have increased the asset limits for receiving state medical care. Additionally, the Act included a provision to allow disabled Minnesota residents on state medical care to receive dental insurance.

    History

    • The Minnesotans With Disabilities Act was voted down in a 2005 state legislative session. The vote came after a state government shutdown which temporarily suspended disability services.

    Effects

    • Although the Act itself was shot down, the Minnesota state legislature did enact some of its reforms. According to the Minnesota State Council on Disability, many of the bill's provisions later became part of the Omnibus Health and Human Services Act, which passed in July, 2005.
