Mixed Media Jewelry Projects

    • Many different objects can be used to create beautiful jewelry, such as necklaces, bracelets and rings. One way to make jewelry even more unusual is to combine different types of materials in a way that will bring out the natural beauty of each material in a symbiotic way.

    Nature Jewelry

    • You can make mixed media jewelry from natural materials, such as shells, stones and precious metals. Combine different elements to make a mixed media creation that can encompass their natural beauty. You can drill holes into shells, for example, which you can string onto a silver wire. The wire can be curled around small gem stones, and curved into a wrist cuff.

    Clay and Stone Jewelry

    • You can make a pendant out of polymer clay and small polished stones. Simply sculpt polymer clay over a wire frame and into the desired form, then press small stones directly into the clay. Twist the top of the wire into a loop so that a necklace can be strung through it, then bake the pendant on a cookie sheet in a conventional oven for 10 minutes at 200 degrees.

    Wire and Glass Jewelry

    • Glass can be just as beautiful as jewels when wrapped by a sterling silver wire. Select a piece of polished glass that does not have any rough or sharp edges. Wrap silver wire around the glass in an artistic way, making sure to curve a portion of the wire into a loop. You can make many of these charms to go onto a bracelet chain or you can make a large one to wear as a pendant.
