Natural Infant Teething Remedies

  • Massage Gums

    • A simple way to alleviate the pain of teething is to massage your baby's gums with your finger, according to WebMD. Wash your hands, then rub your finger over the baby's gum gently for approximately two minutes.

    Washcloth

    • Washcloths are excellent for teething babies, because they are slightly rough and gently massage gums. Soak a clean washcloth in cold water and give to your baby to chew. For added relief, place the wet washcloth in the freezer for thirty minutes. Let your child chew on the frozen washcloth until it thaws, and then wash thoroughly before reusing.

    Teething Rings

    • Teething rings are specifically made for teething babies to chew on. Avoid rings filled with fluid, as the liquid can leak if the baby bites down too hard. Many teething rings can be placed in the refrigerator or freezer. Make certain not to freeze rings until they become completely hardened, as this can hurt sensitive gums, according to WebMD. Never give your baby anything that can break into small pieces and present a choking hazard. Choose teething rings made from natural sources when possible.

    Foods

    • Many foods can also alleviate teething pain. WebMD suggests providing children who are already eating solid foods with bagels, bananas or other chewy foods. Frozen ice pops will also relieve sore and swollen gums. Cold applesauce, yogurt or peaches may also provide relief.
