Released by Olympus in 2005, the FE-230 is a compact digital camera with optical zoom lens. Designed for the entry-level amateur market, the camera is compact in design and inexpensive, with a recommended street price in 2007 of $81.77. The camera features a built-in flash and the ability to store pictures on a removable xD memory card or on its internal 20MB drive.
Sensor

The Olympus FE-230 features a 7.1 megapixel CCD (Charge Coupled Device) Sensor with maximum resolution of 3072 times 2304 pixels. The camera records in JPEG only, with three quality settings of standard, high and super high.
Lens and Shutter

The lens included on the Olympus FE-230 is a 3x optical zoom lens covering a 35mm equivalent range of 38mm to 114mm. The shutter on the camera will operate from half a second through to 1/2000 of a second.
White Balance and Shooting Modes

The Olympus FE-230 provides a five-position "white balance override" allowing the photographer to fine tune the color spectrum being recorded by the camera. The camera only has one shooting mode, but does give the photographer the option of up to two stops of exposure compensation adjustable in 1/3 stop increments.
