• Blue screen errors (also called "Blue screens of death" or "BSoDs") are a type of computer error that occur on Windows-based PCs. When a Windows system encounters a vital system error, the system may crash and display a blue error screen to prevent damage to the computer. The blue error screen displays information about the cause of the error. Blue screens can be caused by a variety of underlying problems; methods for fixing the blue screen errors vary depending on the cause.

Uninstall Programs

• Blue screen errors can be caused by software that is not functioning properly or is incompatible with your system. If blue screen errors occur when you attempt to run a particular program, that program is a likely cause of the problem. Uninstalling programs that you installed before the blue screen error occurred may eliminate the problem. Blue screen errors are often the result of a recent change to your system; undoing recent changes can often alleviate problems. Click "Start," type "Programs and Features" into the search box, click "Programs and Features" in the search results, click a program in the list and then click "Uninstall" to remove the program.

Reinstall or Uninstall Hardware
