The Options for Xvid

    • XviD is a codec file that can be downloaded and installed on a computer system to allow for the conversion of different types of video files. Codec, short for coder-decoder, can be used to unpack and repack types of audio and video formats that use a specific type of compression.

    Configuration Panel

    • The XviD codec includes a main configuration panel called "XviD Configuration" that can be used to look at and make changes to the various codec options available. The configuration panel is split into three different subsections and includes options for "Main Settings," "Zones" and "More." There is also an option to load the default XviD configuration settings by using a button on the main panel called "Load Defaults." Loading default settings are an important feature in case a change is made within the XviD options that causes a conflict within the computer system. There is also a button labeled "Decoder Options" that will take the user to a menu for changing decoder settings.

    Built-In Profiles

    • The XviD configuration panel includes a number of setting profiles that can be selected by pulling down the "Profile @ Level" menu. Profile settings are used to select different video standards for use in certain situations. There is a "Simple" setting, used for low-quality, low-bit rate video projects, a "Advanced RealTime Simple" or "ARTS" setting, used for low-quality video projects played in real time, and an "Advanced Simple" setting, which is generally regarded as the basic XviD profile option.

    Customized Settings

    • Users can also choose to create their own profile and settings that can be saved and used when performing certain video-related tasks. Users have the ability to change options such as Quantization Type, Adaptive Quantization, Interlaced Encoding, Quarter Pixel, Global Motion Compensation, Reduced Resolution, B-VOP's, B-VOP fine tune settings, Packed Bitstream and Closed GOV settings. The aspect ratio, frame size, processing rate and buffer settings can also be changed to suit the needs of the user or project.
