Organic Tick Repellent

Protecting your pets from ticks is a necessity because the pests carry certain diseases. Ticks are found commonly in areas with a large number of weeds or tall plants, including wooded areas. Organic tick repellents will help keep the ticks away.
  • Types

    • Garlic is a natural repellent for ticks and may work for humans and pets. Neem oil is an organic tick repellent for humans and for your pets. Tea tree oil and other essential oils, such as lavender and eucalyptus, also can be used.

    Uses

    • Apply neem oil directly to your skin and rub it gently against the surface. Tea tree oil is stronger, so you need to dilute it first with equal parts water and then spray on the pet's skin. For garlic, mix one clove of garlic into your pet's food for every 30 pounds the pet weighs. For example, if the pet weighs 60 pounds, use two cloves of garlic.

    Prevention

    • Each time your pet comes in from outside, check it carefully for any signs of ticks and remove the pests. Check the pet when you bring it home from the kennel or any location away from your home as well.
