Gift baskets are commonly given to out-of-town guests at weddings and other events that required guests to travel. Not only are they a sign of appreciation, but they help guests get acquainted with their new surroundings.
Traveler's Guide
-
Include a traveler's guide that contains local maps and listings of local businesses, such as stores, malls, museums, art galleries, theatres and theme parks. If guests are travelling to a location where their native language is not spoken, consider including a translation book as well.
Local Snack
-
Add a snack that your location is known for, or find a way to incorporate it. For example, if maple syrup is popular in your area, consider adding a package of hard candies made out of local maple syrup. Alternatively, if your location is famous for a specific bakery, candy shop or restaurant, include a gift certificate for that destination.
Local Present
-
Add a small trinket that your location is know for, or that was made by a well-known local merchant. Ideas include handmade soaps, candles or small carving. Alternatively, you could add a small tourist gift, such as a key chain that says "I Heart New York" or a local postcard.
Items to Pamper
-
Think of items that would be nice to have after a long day of travelling and add them to the basket. Examples include slippers, a thin blanket, a bottle of wine, gourmet coffee or tea, spring water, a magazine or a book of puzzles.
Easy-to-Forget Items
-
Items that are frequently forgotten include toothpaste and toothbrushes, razors and shaving cream, shampoo and conditioner, hand cream, hairspray, body wash, soap, Q-tips and lip balm. Travel-sized versions of these items can be purchased at a dollar or discount store.
Thank You Note
-
Add a note thanking each guest for travelling and letting them know how much it means to you. Consider adding a line or two that is different for each person. This will add a nice personalized touch to each letter.
