PC Mic Specs

    • Although some microphones are branded as personal computer (PC) microphones, many microphones work with PCs. The critical factor sometimes is simply the size of the jack plug on the end of the lead. Most PCs require a 3.5 mm plug and many microphones have 1/4-inch plugs on the end. However, an inexpensive adapter can solve this problem.

    Labtec PC Mic 333

    • The Labtec PC Mic 333 is designed to be fixed on the computer monitor to save space. The device is omni-directional, capable of detecting sound from all directions and works with Internet telephony, voice chat, video conferencing and multiplayer gaming. The frequency response is 100 to 10 kilo-hertz (kHz). Its shielded power cord provides seven feet of length and has a PC-1999 compliant color-coded jack. Power source voltage runs at 1.5-volts of direct current.

    Sony ECM-DS70P

    • The ECM-DS70P is a small and lightweight electret-condenser uni-directional stereo microphone. T-shaped because of the two microphone heads pointing away from each other, its frequency range is 100 to 15,000 hertz (Hz). It has an L-shaped 3.5-mm jack plug for direct connection to MiniDisc, digital audio tape (DAT) and NT recorders. Gold-plated for maximum conductivity and minimum noise, the microphone boasts wide frequency response and dynamic range. It needs no battery to work, having plug-in power operation. The supplied microphone cord is three feet long and it comes with a clip.

    Behringer C-1U

    • The Behringer C-1U is the same microphone as the Behringer C-1 with a useful built-in universal serial bus (USB) interface. No additional drivers are needed to start using the C-1U. It is a condenser microphone, the main type used in radio stations and recording studios. Because of its wider and flatter frequency response, these microphone types capture more sound detail than dynamic microphones. It boasts ultra low-noise input circuitry and flat frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz. It is advertised as a podcast microphone and is used for home music projects, as it is ideal for capturing vocals and acoustic instruments. It has a metal die-cast body and comes with Audacity, Kristal Audio Engine, Podifier and PodNova software.

    ECM-MS907

    • The Sony ECM-MS907 is an electret-condenser stereo microphone. An electret microphone is a type of condenser microphone, which does not require a polarizing power supply as it uses a material, which is permanently charged. The ECM-MS907 has a mid-side stereo system and wide dynamic range. The microphone is uni-directional and the angle of direction can be set from 90 to 120 degrees. It works at a frequency of 100 to 15,000 Hz and has an output level of -51.0 decibels.
