Plans for a Simple Podium

Family gathering can be a lot of fun with performances and speeches from family members. A small podium would enhance these experiences by rising the performers up just enough to draw attention and for everyone to see. These small podiums be used for family gatherings or during business or other types of presentations.
  • Preparation

    • 1

Cut a piece of plywood to be 18 inches wide and 20 inches long. Mark one side of the plywood 8 inches from the end and then mark the opposite end 8 inches from the bottom. Mark a line and saw. You should now have two pieces of plywood 18 inches wide and 8 inches on the short side and 10 inches on the long side. These pieces will be the sides of the podium.

    • 2

Cut the other pieces of the podium. The front of the stage will be a piece of plywood 24 inches by 10 3/4 inches. The top will be 24 inches by 26 inches and the base is 18 inches by 22 1/2 inches. Set a saw at an angle of 25 degrees and cut the edge of the front piece to have a 25 degree bevel. This allows the top of the podium to sit evenly on the sides.

    • 3

Mark the two sides and the front of the piece 3/4 inches from the square bottom edges. These lines indicate where you will install the base.

    Assembly

    • 1

Glue and nail the side pieces to the front. Glue the 10 inch side to the back of the front piece and use nails to reinforce the structures strength.

    • 2

Place the top on the podium sides and front and use nails and wood glue to keep the structure together.

    • 3

Put the base in where you marked earlier.

    • 4

Fill all nail holes with putty and sand the podium to make sure it is safe.
