Reciprocating Saw Specifications

    • Construction workers and engineers often need to cut through metal or wood for various reasons. One power tool that is very good at cutting through these materials is the reciprocating blade, which is a power tool that moves the blade back and forth very fast, cutting into the material.

    Motor Ampage

    • The Hitachi CR13VA reciprocating saw has an 11 amp motor. This power is designed to give the owner the power to cut through objects that are difficult to cut, according to General Manual. Some reciprocating blades have a lower amp motor, such as the Ryobi ERS800K.

    Variable Speed

    • The Hitachi has an electronic variable speed. This speed can be adjusted by a trigger or by a hand dial. The Ryobi ERS800K has six settings that can be adjusted by a trigger. Nearby the trigger is usually the On/Off switch to turn the reciprocating saw off if necessary.

    Stroke Lengths

    • The stroke length of the Hitachi is 1 1/4 inches and moves from zero to 2800 strokes per minute, allowing the blade to cut very fast, according to General Manual. The Ryobi ERS800K has the same strokes per minute and has a cutting capacity of 75 millimeters.

    Replacing Blades

    • The blades of reciprocating saws can usually be easily exchanged so that they can be replaced with saws that are better for the job. Because of the easy replacement, broken saws can be quickly replaced. Some blades are designed to cut specific metals and will not cut through other metals. Attempting to use the wrong blade to cut through a particular type of metal can cause the blade to break.

    Usage

    • The reciprocating saw usually has a handle that allows the saw to be held more easily so that there are no slips of the hand. Some reciprocating saws like the Hitachi are designed as very light so that they are easy to carry to the job. The reciprocating saw often has a pivot foot that can regulate how deeply the saw can cut.

    Dust Resistance

    • To maximize the saw's versatility in a variety of conditions, the reciprocating saw must resist moisture and dust, according to General Manual.

    Wattage

    • Wattage varies from reciprocating saw to reciprocating saw. The Ryobi ERS800K has a 800 watt motor.
