Removal of Grass Stains on Leather Shoes

Whether you are dealing with your child's sneakers or your dress shoes, leather can all too easily pick up grass stains. These stubborn stains may not leave your shoes with mere soap and water alone, but you can remove the grass stains without too much extra effort. Several different household ingredients can do the job, so if you do not have one of the items simply try the one you do have on hand.
  • Vinegar

    • 1

Mix equal parts of water and white vinegar in a small bowl.

    • 2

Dip a soft cloth into the water and vinegar mixture. Wring the cloth out until it is just damp.

    • 3

Wipe the leather shoe with the cloth. Go with the grain to help remove as much of the grass stain as possible.

    • 4

Wipe the stained area with clean water to rinse. If the grass stain remains, wipe again with the vinegar and water.

    Toothpaste

    • 1

Apply a small amount of non-gel toothpaste directly to the grass stain.

    • 2

Rub the toothpaste gently into the grass stain. Toothpaste is abrasive, so be careful not to press too hard or you may scratch the leather.

    • 3

Wipe the shoe with a damp cloth. If any grass stain is still left, apply the toothpaste again.

    Molasses

    • 1

Wipe a generous amount of molasses onto the grass stain, but not so much that it drips down the side of the shoe.

    • 2

Let the molasses sit on the shoe overnight to work on the grass stain.

    • 3

Use hot water and mild soap on a soft cloth to wash away the molasses. If any grass stain is left, repeat the molasses treatment.
