Requirements for Packaging a DVD

  • DVD Compartments

    • The compartment where the DVD is stored within the case is fit snugly into a plastic area that is in the exact circular shape of the DVD, with a raised section in the middle. This raised middle section holds the sensitive section of the DVD that has data on it above the plastic base of the compartment, so there is less of a chance of scratches or damage. Every DVD case should have one of these compartments.

    DVD Case

    • DVD cases should be made of thick plastic. These cases should be able to open in the middle, with raised plastic sides so there is space inside the DVD case around the disk. This not only protects the DVD if the case is dropped or crushe, but also allows room for a booklet about the DVD to be stored inside the case. A plastic sleeve is often present around the outside of the case so that poster art can be put inside it, to make the case look more attractive.

    DVD Sleeves

    • With box sets of DVDs, such as film anthologies or television shows, the packaging is often different in order to put a number of DVDs into one piece of packaging. Many of these DVD boxes have thick pieces of plastic and cardboard packaging, along with folding cartons to accommodate four to five DVDs at once in each box. Many of these folding cartons are more fragile than standard DVD cases, as there is much more material stacked on top of each other, making it more liable to break.
