If the person you're shopping for has Scottish heritage, choose his clan tartan. If he has visited Scotland on a holiday, buy a gift that will remind him of the time he spent in this beautiful country.

The hardest part about choosing a Scottish-themed gift for him is managing the array of choices. If he is of Scottish origin, you may wish to buy him the tartan of his family's clan. Scottish gift shops usually have a catalog of tartans, each tartan denoted by the surname. Depending on how much money you want to spend, you might buy him a kilt or an accessory to go with his kilt, such as a sporran, garter flashes, ceilidh brogues (shoes to wear with a kilt), a tartan tie or bow-tie, or a sgian dubh (a small, ornamental knife that is tucked into the sock, with the knife handle showing, and worn with the kilt). If this is not appropriate, you may wish to choose a generic gift such as cuff links, a golf towel, a beer tankard or a hip flask with a thistle, Scottish flag or Loch Ness theme.
