The Significance of White Candles

Candles carry meaning in a variety of belief systems, and have been produced as far back as ancient Egypt and Crete. Besides being a pleasant visual and aromatic addition to any room, white candles can carry more serious implications.
  • Psychic

    • White candles symbolize the balance between all colors. They tend to carry positive connotations, such as purity, dawn, peace and spiritual strength.

    Paschal Candle

    • The Paschal Candle is used in many western Christian churches to represent Jesus risen from death. The candle is massive and white, and is routinely used in services that occur leading up to Easter, and during baptisms.

    Advent Candles

    • A Catholic tradition involves the lighting of four candles arranged around a wreath on the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. On Christmas Eve, the wreath is replaced by a single, large, white candle (sometimes called a Christ candle) wrapped with holly.
