Silent Auction Ideas That Kids Can Make

  • Ceramics

    • Purchase unadorned, white ceramic items such as flower pots, piggy banks, canisters or pitchers at your local crafts or hobby store. Allow the students to paint and decorate the ceramics in any way they like, or choose a theme like flowers or butterflies on flower pots.

    Quilts

    • Students can also create a patch quilt to be sold at your silent auction. Purchase fabric and cut it into squares. Using fabric paint, fabric glue and accessories such as sequins and trim, each student decorates one square of fabric. A teacher or volunteer parent then sews the patch quilt together.

    Aprons

    • Younger students can contribute to the silent auction by decorating plain aprons. Pre-schoolers and kindergartners can dip their hands in different colors of paints and create handprint aprons to be auctioned off.

    Mosaics

    • Under the supervision of an adult, allow the students to turn discounted, donated or garage sale mirrors and tables into mosaic art pieces. For the mosaic pieces, break chipped or cheap pottery and glassware into small, manageable pieces. Have the students work in groups to design and decorate the mirrors or table tops.

    Coupons

    • Kids can create coupons for chores they're willing to complete, such as walking the dog, washing windows, babysitting or washing the car. Students then must go to the winners' homes to complete the tasks.

    Sculptures

    • Using clay, allow students to creature miniature sculptures of animals or plants. Older students can produce pottery such as bowls or vases. Once the clay dries, students can paint their creations.
