Similarities Between Windows PC OS & Windows Mobile

    • Microsoft, when developing its Windows Mobile and pocket PC devices, attempted to make the software as close to Windows as possible for user-friendly navigation and seamless integration with PCs. Similarities between Windows PCs and Windows Mobile made an initial user of mobile devices at ease. The tide has started to turn. Cell phones currently being manufactured have Windows Mobile operating systems that were specifically designed for cell phones, which makes them slightly different than the Windows operating system on your computer.

    Office applications

    • Windows Mobile and Windows PC operating systems support Microsoft office suite, which allows you to access Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents as if you are watching them on your Windows operating system. This allows colleagues and friends to send you documents from the computer, and you can open and edit the content from your Windows mobile cellular phone.

    Access menu

    • In the Windows operating system, you navigate to the start menu to access various programs. A Windows Mobile device operates similarly; you press the "Start" button, or the Windows icon, based on your cell phone mode and access programs through the start menu.

    Microsoft media player

    • The Windows Mobile device primarily allows Windows Media Player to play any musical content on your mobile device. A Windows operating system allows you to install other media applications, such as iTunes, and QuickTime. Windows Media Player operates on the mobile device similarly to the computer. And the program allows seamless transfer of content from the computer to the mobile device.

    Graphics and interface

    • Any Windows Mobile-based device has the same icons and graphics that the Windows operating system has. For example, the blue "E" that indicates the icon for Internet Explorer looks identical on Windows mobile devices as it does the Windows operating system. The icons are similar for checking email, accessing Windows Media Player and launching the start menu for your programs. The icons for accessing a Wi-Fi network are identical.
