If you're looking to tone and tighten your face without the astronomical costs of anti-aging creams, injections or surgical procedures, you still have options. In fact, there are numerous facial exercises that work to tone and smooth different areas of the face including your eyes, forehead, lips and cheeks. So before you rush out for the newest wrinkle-banishing serum, try these simple steps.
Eyebrows
-
Just like your eyes, the skin surrounding them is an extremely delicate area. In fact, it's one of the most fragile parts of your skin as a whole. Unfortunately, the fragility of this area has a tendency to make every little line and wrinkle more noticeable, and can easily give the impression of aging. On the plus side, there are a number of facial exercises that can help smooth away those lines and even have an eye-lifting effect. Take, for one, the eyebrow lift. Begin by using your fingertips to push up your eyebrows as high as you possibly can (without hurting yourself, of course) while tightly squinting your eyes. Hold for about 30 seconds and repeat five times. This simple lift will help you look more alert.
Eyes
-
As for the other sensitive areas surrounding your eyes, you can easily tone these by placing two fingers on each side of your temples. Open and close your eyes quickly and repeat about five times. Another method is to sit in a relaxing upright position with your eyes gently closed. Keeping them closed, look as far up and as far down as you possibly can without straining your eyes; repeat this about 10 times.
Forehead
-
Your forehead is another area that's prone to lines and wrinkles (especially that little space between your eyebrows). If you'd like to avoid this, or smooth the lines you already have, try these simple exercises. First, shape your mouth into a full frown. Now pull your eyebrows down and in toward each other (like you're trying to pull them over your eyes), repeat five times. Here's an easy one you can do in bed: lie on your back so you're facing the ceiling and position your head so it's hanging slightly over the edge. Keeping your eyes wide open, lift your eyebrows as high as you can. You can do this up to 10 times; just remember to relax during each repetition.
Lips
-
Lips are one of the easiest places to tone on your face. You can start simply by pursing them together, lifting them toward your nose and holding the position for about five seconds. Another good lip exercise is to keep your mouth closed and your teeth pressed firmly together. Once in this position, smile as wide as you can without opening your lips and hold it for about five seconds. Once you're relaxed, pucker your lips into a pointed kiss and hold for another five seconds. These can all be repeated up to 10 times in one sitting.
Cheeks
-
Cheeks are an area that many people are concerned with, especially those who long for the sleek, chiseled look of sculpted cheekbones. Sure, you can dole out wads of cash to get this look, or you can try achieving it on your own with some simple daily exercises. First, get into a relaxing upright sitting position and face forward (it can be useful to focus on a particular object). Now, pucker up and pout your lips like you're about to make a humorous fish-face. The trick here is to make sure you're relying on your cheek muscles (check with your fingers for a slight indentation beneath your cheekbones to make sure you're on the right track). Hold this position for 10 seconds, and repeat up to 10 times.
