Sarasota comprises the mainland and several barrier islands in the Gulf of Mexico along the southwestern coast of Florida. This city of 52,000 residents is one hour south of Tampa and 30 minutes from Myakka River State Park, one of the oldest and largest state parks in the Sunshine State. The city hosts the annual Florida Winefest in April and the Sarasota Bluesfest in November.
