A full list of bar drinks can, and does, fill volumes. From a Fluffy Duck to a Dirty Girl Scout, it would be seemingly impossible to know how to make every drink in existence. Still, there are staple drinks every bartender should know how to make. The following list is a brief overview of standard bar drinks.
Classic Mixed Drinks
-
Mixed drinks are generally easy drinks to make and available at most alcohol-serving establishment. Often using highball glasses, mixed drinks involve a glass full of ice, one shot of liquor and a mixer. Examples of classic mixed drinks include: Bloody Mary, Fuzzy Navel, Gin and Tonic, Rum and Coke, Screwdriver and Vodka Tonic.
Martinis
-
Martinis are an ever-popular drink with a host of preparation variations, most often served in a cocktail glass. Though easy to make, the preference of the customer needs to be taken into consideration. A standard martini contains gin and vermouth and is garnished with an olive, but bartenders need to account for variations in: liquor, garnish, shaken or stirred and dry or dirty. The martini family includes martinis, Manhattans and Rob Roys.
Tropical Drinks
-
Tropical drinks, including margaritas and daiquiris, are favorites in many establishments. Tropical drinks come in a wide variety of flavors, mainly fruit-based, and can be prepared on the rocks or as an icy blended drink. Glasses can be rimmed with sugar or salt depending on the drink.
Shots
-
Shots can range in variety from simple, one-liquor drinks to several liquors combined in the same shot. Some shots are topped with whipped cream or even set on fire. Shots are generally served in a shot glass. Popular shots include the Tequila Shooters, Jager bombs, Three Wise Men and Lemon Drops.
