Text and Images in Wrong Places

Check the input tray's media guides to make sure they are pushed up against the stack of paper snugly, but do not bend the paper. Remove any paper that sits above the height line in the input tray.

Click the "File" option at the top of the document's window and select "Print." Click the "Properties" button, then the "Paper" tab to make sure the document size in the settings matches the paper you have loaded in the printer. If it does not, select the correct paper size by typing the values in the "Width" and "Length" boxes.

Click the "Advanced" tab and find the "Minimize Margins" options. Use the pull-down menu to select smaller side, top and bottom margins so text or graphics are not cut off.

Click the "OK" button, then check the selection in the "Orientation" drop-down menu. If the setting in the window does not match the orientation of the digital document, choose the other option in the drop-down menu and click "Print."

Replace the printer's USB cable if it is connected to a cable that measures over 3 meters or 9.8 feet.
Partially Filled Text or Images

Remove all of the paper from the printer's input tray. Open a new package of paper that is a different brand of paper and is marked for use with inkjet printers. Insert some in the input tray.

Click the "Start" button on the left side of the computer's taskbar, then click "All Programs." Click the HP folder and click "HP Toolbox." Click the "Estimated Ink Level" tab to see if any cartridges need to be replaced.

Open the printer's top cover and wait for the carriage to stop moving if any of the cartridges are low on ink. Pinch the plastic tab on the front of the cartridge you need to replace and pull the cartridge free of the carriage. Make sure to remove all of the wrappings from the new cartridge before installing it, including the tape on the sides and bottom.

Clean the print cartridges if the problem persists. Make sure paper is loaded in the input tray, then press the "Setup" button on the printer. Use the arrow keys to select "Tools" and then "Clean Cartridge."

Retrieve the test page from the printer's output tray. If you see broken or missing lines in the printout, run the printer's cartridge cleaning process again.
